I Took a Break. AI Did Not.
I stepped away from Signal this summer. I traveled, I rested, I let my phone sit face down on the table for whole afternoons.
Then I came back and read a month of AI news in one sitting. And a few of you wrote to me asking where Signal went, because it had become part of how you keep up. That message is the reason this issue exists.
Here is what I noticed. While we were living our lives, AI crossed a quiet line. It is no longer only answering questions. It is starting to use the computer the way you do: opening the browser, filling the form, finishing the task.
That can feel like a reason to panic. I want it to feel like a reason to start.

GPT-6 Astra and the "AGI Era" Claim

On September 3, OpenAI released GPT-6 Astra. Its president, Greg Brockman, introduced it with four words: "Welcome to the AGI era."
Strip away the headline and the real shift is simple. Astra does not only write for you. It operates a computer the way a person does, moving through browsers, spreadsheets, forms, and apps to finish multi-step work. OpenAI demonstrated it preparing taxes, ordering food, and running a job search.
It reached paid ChatGPT users the day after launch. The most sensitive capabilities stay behind invitation-only programs, and safety researchers are openly uneasy that its new architecture makes parts of its reasoning harder to inspect. Two weeks later, OpenAI said it is working with Anthropic and Google on shared safety measures.
This is the signal. AI is moving from something you talk to, to something that acts for you, and the rules around that power are being written right now.
Takeaway
The question is no longer what AI can say. It is what AI can do on your behalf, and who decides the limits.
What this means for you
You do not need to memorize model names. You do need to learn how to delegate. The woman who can clearly describe a task, check the result, and set boundaries will get the most from AI that acts. That is a leadership skill, and you already have it.

AGI, Explained Without the Tech Panic
You heard "AGI era" this month and maybe thought, that sounds too technical for me. The idea is simpler than the debate.

AGI stands for Artificial General Intelligence. There is no single agreed test for it. The term points to AI that can reason and learn across many kinds of work instead of staying inside one narrow task. OpenAI defines it as systems doing economically valuable work at human level or better, which is why it chose this launch to use the word.
AGI does not mean the AI is human. It means the system is getting better at general problem-solving across many domains.
Today's AI is like hiring one talented assistant for one task. AGI-style AI is closer to a whole strategy room forming around your idea: the writer, designer, developer, operations lead, security reviewer, and project manager all thinking together.

Earlier this year I gave Claude the MetaHers app link and asked it to review the app. I expected a normal critique. Instead it brought in separate agents for content, design, security, procedures, product flow, and user experience.
Each reviewed the app from its own angle, then they coordinated around a stronger version of MetaHers. It did not feel like asking one chatbot for feedback. It felt like watching a small team think around my business.

I Hired an Agent and Named Her Mabrouka
Meta released Muse this month, its first personal AI agent, on iPhone, Android and the web, free to start with paid plans for heavier use. It does not only answer. It opens the browser, fills the form, keeps working after you close the app, and comes back when it needs your approval.
You name yours and give her a face. Mine is Mabrouka. She now handles two things that used to eat my week.
The first is Instagram. Every morning I ask her for the day's post. She writes it, makes the visual, and shows me the draft. When I approve it, she publishes it. No brainstorming, no designing, no scheduling window.
The second is my inbox. She has been working through more than ten thousand unread emails, sorting what matters, deleting the ads, and telling me what actually needs an answer.
This is what an agent means in real life. Not a chatbot you visit. Someone you brief, and then check.
Two things before you hand anything over. Open Settings, then Data Controls, and turn off model training. And keep approval switched on for anything that sends, posts or pays. Meta routes outside actions through a review step and keeps a record of what was done, which is the part that makes delegating reasonable.
The same shift reached the iPhone on September 15, when Apple opened a beta of its rebuilt Siri, powered by Google's Gemini models, with daily limits and paid access to come. When AI lives inside the phone you already carry, it stops being a separate tech tool and becomes part of how your day runs.
Your children will meet AI first through the assistant on the family phone. Set the rules before the habits form.
One morning brief can replace a content day. Keep approval as the last step so the voice stays yours.
The work moves from making every asset to directing and approving them. Your taste becomes the product.

07Prompt of the Week
Send Your Agent to Study the Room
Your agent can open pages and read them. That changes what you can ask for. Instead of another caption, send it to learn how your corner of Instagram actually behaves. I address mine by name. Use your own, or drop the name and paste this into any AI assistant that can browse.
Mabrouka, act as my growth analyst. Open my Instagram profile @myhandle and read my last 30 posts. Then open these three accounts that speak to the same women: @one, @two, @three. For each account, note the format, the first line, the length, and the posting time behind the posts with the most saves and comments. Then give me: five things they do that I do not, three things I already do better, and a two-week posting plan for me with one format and one opening line per day. Use only what you can see on the pages, and say clearly when something is a guess.
Why it works. Most women ask AI to write a post. Ask it to study the room first. An agent can open the profiles, read what actually performed, and hand you a plan built on evidence instead of imagination. Keep the last line in. It is what stops an assistant from inventing numbers it cannot see.
